Welcome to the Dragon Family: Ryan Dingman
Ryan Dingman is Minnesota State Moorhead's newest Public Safety Sergeant. Ryan patrols campus on the night shift to make sure the campus is safe and serves as a friendly face for students.
Q: What do you love most about working for Moorhead?
A: That's a pretty easy answer: the people. Everybody here is so friendly; they're always smiling, and I haven't had a bad interaction with anybody in the month I've worked here.
Q: What have you found surprising working here?
A: The job is so unique. Obviously I'm here if things go wrong, but the rest of the time I get to check in with students and build relationships with them. During Welcome Week, another public safety sergeant and I threw a football with some new students. It's serious but we get to have fun.
Q: What would we find you doing on your days off?
A: I try and pack my days off with things to do. I train Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu almost every day, and the rest of my time is filled with chores around the house or learning something new.
Q: What book are you currently reading? What show are you watching?
A: I'm reading Mickey7 by Edward Ashton, the book that the film Mickey 17 is based on. I'm a big sci-fi fan. I'm also watching Game of Thrones right now, and it might already be my favorite show of all time.
Q: What's one thing-big or small-that you're really good at?
A: Electrical work. Even though I've never had formal training, for some reason I just pick it up instantly. My electrician friends find it really weird.
Q: What is your favorite place to eat in the FM area? What's your go-to dish?
A: The all you can eat sushi at Izumi is my go-to. It's just so good. I go through numerous boats of sushi there.
